Comment
A woman (Deborah Kerr) is employed as governess to two young children by their absent father and guardian (Michael Redgrave), but she soon susupects the house and children are haunted by the dead previous governess (Clytie Jessop) and her lover the dead valet (Peter Wyngarde). This is a well produced adaptation of the Henry James novel that benefits from the atmospheric black and white photography. This adds to the creepy and ghostly feel to the film. There is a good performance from Debaroah Kerr as the governess drawn into a supernatural situation, in an isolated house with no support. There is also a good performance from Martin Stephens as the enigmatic child.
